In a resounding declaration of its commitment to ethical values and good governance, the Anti-Corruption & Transparency Unit (ACTU) at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has initiated the “Say No to Corruption” campaign. This campaign seeks to eradicate corrupt practices such as embezzlement, misappropriation of funds, examination malpractice, and sexual harassment within the university community.
Corruption is a pervasive issue that affects societies worldwide, and educational institutions are not exempt from its grasp. Obafemi Awolowo University recognizes the importance of maintaining the highest standards of integrity, both in academic pursuits and administrative affairs. The “Say No to Corruption” campaign is a proactive measure to tackle these issues head-on.
The campaign focuses on four key pillars:
-
No to Embezzlement: The campaign aims to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of embezzlement on the university’s financial stability and overall reputation. It calls on all members of the university community to uphold the principles of honesty and accountability.
-
No to Misappropriation of Funds: Financial misappropriation can hinder the university’s ability to provide quality education and support services. ACTU encourages responsible financial management and reporting to ensure funds are used for their intended purposes.
-
No to Examination Malpractice: Maintaining academic integrity is paramount in any educational institution. The campaign stresses the importance of fair and honest examination practices, discouraging cheating, plagiarism, and any form of academic misconduct.
-
No to Sexual Harassment: Sexual harassment has no place in a learning environment. ACTU is dedicated to creating a safe and respectful atmosphere, where all members of the university community can study, work, and thrive without fear of harassment.
To support the campaign’s objectives, ACTU will conduct awareness programs, workshops, and seminars to educate students, faculty, and staff about the consequences of corruption and unethical behavior. Reporting mechanisms will also be strengthened to ensure that individuals who witness or experience any form of corruption can come forward safely and confidentially.
The “Say No to Corruption” campaign is a testament to Obafemi Awolowo University’s unwavering commitment to fostering an environment of integrity, transparency, and accountability. It sends a powerful message that corruption will not be tolerated within the institution, and together, the university community can build a brighter and more ethical future for all.
